Joseph Jones

Joseph Rocco Jones is a Partner at the Law Office of Ball & Yorke. He handles employment disputes, wage and hour matters, personal injury, wrongful death, and insurance bad faith.

Joe’s also an adjunct professor of law at the Santa Barbara and Ventura Colleges of Law, where he has taught Torts, Remedies, Legal Research, Advanced Legal Writing, Professional Skills, and Bar Studies. And he is also a former instructor the UCSB Paralegal Extension program, where he taught Contracts, Legal Writing, Evidence, and Civil Procedure.

Originally from Trenton, New Jersey, Joe graduated from Holy Ghost Preparatory School in Bensalem, Pennsylvania. While there, he was a top performer in competitive speech and debate. He was a three-time national finalist in Original Oratory and a national finalist in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking. Joe won a National Championship in 1996.

He studied English Literature and Secondary Education at La Salle University on a full scholarship. He appeared in student productions of Lend Me a Tenor, Guys and Dolls, 12 Angry Men, Lysistrata, and Waiting for Godot. He was also a brother of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, holding chapter positions of Counselor, Educator, and Chaplain.

After relocating to California, Joe worked as a paralegal for the Law Office of Ball & Yorke during the day and was a student of the Santa Barbara and Ventura Colleges of Law at night. He served twice on the executive board of the Student Bar Association, including a term as the President. He also became a member of the Delta Theta Phi international law fraternity.

He received fourteen Witkin Legal Institute Awards and won the 2008 Richard Abbe Moot Court competition. Joe graduated first in his class and received his Juris Doctor with highest honors. He passed the California Bar Examination on his first attempt.

Joe is a member of the California State Bar. He is also admitted to practice law before the United States District Courts of the Central District and Eastern District of California. He is a member of the Ventura County Bar Association, the Ventura County Trial Lawyers Association, and the Ventura County Mexican Bar Association. Joe serves on the Board on the Women Lawyers of Ventura County.

Community

Joe is a former leader for the St. Thomas Aquinas Boy Scout Troop. He’s volunteered with the Society of St. Vincent DePaul and Habit for Humanity to provide meals and build homes for people in need. He has been both a lector and a cantor at Mass and assisted with his parish’s RCIA program.

Facts

Joe has been a resident of Ventura County since August 2001 and currently lives in Oxnard. He is the father of six children. He practiced sleight-of-hand for much of his life. In his spare time, he plays board and card games.
