Brett graduated from St. Bonaventure High School in 2004 and attended San Diego State University. Brett graduated with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Cultural Anthropology. While at SDSU, Brett was a member of the Political Science honors society and Vice-President of the Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity. Brett gained valuable experience working on the freshmen campaign of State Senator Marty Block in his successful campaign for San Diego’s 37th district seat.
Brett attended University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California. Brett graduated with a certification in Advocacy as well as being on the Dean’s List. In the summer of 2010, Brett took a course on Comparative Law taught by Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy in Salzburg, Austria.
During his final year of law school, Brett worked for the Federal Public Defenders office in Sacramento, California as part of an exclusive program that allowed law students to represent clients in Federal Magistrate Courts. Brett handled cases from initial appearances to post-sentencing hearings. Brett, along with his partner Andrea Moon, obtained a series of extremely favorable outcomes for their clients charged with misdemeanors. Most notably, Brett and Andrea obtained a favorable dismissal on the eve of trial to a federal shoplifting charge against a single father facing incarceration for the charged offense.
In his free time, Brett enjoys watching the Lakers, spending time with his family and friends, and vacationing in Lake Tahoe.
